In automations, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and microcontrollers have different functions. Microcontrollers may find themselves in very basic and low-cost applications while PLCs are suited for more high-tech and demanding industrial settings. PLCs are more robust, much easier to program and more easily integrated into manufacturing and process control systems. Knowing these differences will enable firms to select the appropriate technology to satisfy their automation requirements.
